The Best Darn Thing

I've decided to stray away from Disney for the time being, so today I am blogging on Avril Lavigne's album The Best Da*n Thing. I don't curse at all so for future reference I'm going to call it The Best Darn Thing. I'm putting in a LOT less videos cause a) it saves time for me and b) I've come to the realization that no one is going to watch all those videos unless they are extremely bored and have 3 hours of time on their hands. (And besides, if you were that bored, you would probably be on facebook for that entire length of time anyway....don't lie. =P) The Best Darn Thing is a compilation of emotions: content, happy, excited, depressed, lonely, full of angst, you name it. This album has it all. Avril really puts her heart into her music and it's a job well done.

1. Girlfriend
One of my favorite Avril songs ever! It's about a girl who really likes this guy but unfortunately, he has a girlfriend. Not just any girlfriend, but a whiny, spoiled, and just all around nasty girl. Avril realizes that she could do so much better than the girlfriend, and she spends the whole song talking about how he would be better off if she (Avril) was his girlfriend, and not the other girl. I totally identified with this song at the time, but I'm not gonna go into details haha. ;) But Avril had a very happy ending, and me? Not so much. =P

2. I Can Do Better

This song is angry but at the same time really catchy. It's a good way to vent if you're really mad about something lol. It's about a girl who is really sick of this one guy. He has hurt her too long and now she just wants to be done with him. She wants him to go away so she can find someone better.

3. Runaway

Have you ever had "one of those days"? Days where it doesn't seem to get any worse. Everything is just going wrong and you just want to get away from it all. You want to run anywhere, as long as it's away from your problems. I've had days like those, so I can definitely identify with this song. Avril has a lot of good venting songs for anger.

4. The Best Da*n Thing

This song is about a girl who is sick of the rotten guys in her life. They don't treat her the way she wants to be treated, and she longs for the Cinderella-fairy-tale-happily-ever-after life. She is telling all the guys out there that even though she is a lot to handle, you won't find anyone better than her and she is "the best da*n thing that your eyes have ever seen."

5. When You're Gone

Aww this is such a sad song! It's about a girl who breaks up with her boyfriend because she needed time alone. Then she realizes that she really misses him and she wants him back in her life. It's hard for her to live without him. It's a really good song to sing along to when you're missing a special person.

6. Everything Back But You
This is one of Avril's classic angry rocker-chick songs that I love. It kind of sounds malicious but I just can't help but sing along! The basic story line is the boyfriend goes on vacation for a few weeks. He sends a postcard to his girlfriend that doesn't seem like it was written by himself. ("It smelled like cheap perfume and it didn't smell like you" is a huge hint.) He either mistakenly or on purpose writes "I wish you were her" instead of "I wish you were here". The intent can go either way but the girlfriend is disgusted by her boyfriend's actions. She wants everything she ever gave him but does not want him back at all.

7. Hot
Not one of my favorites. It's pretty much about a girl who is head over heels in love and wants to be with him all the time.

8. Innocence
This is such a beautiful song. =) It's about a girl who looks back on her past and realizes that life is good. She is happy with where she wants to be in life and wants to cherish the moment with her loved ones.

9. I Don't Have To Try
I really don't like this song and there isn't too much of a point to it. Avril is just saying that she makes the rules and no one can boss her around.

10. One of Those Girls
This song is about a guy who is with a totally wrong girl. She doesn't love him, she just uses him for his money and for his status. Avril tries to warn him, but he just won't see it. By the time he realizes what is happening, it will be too late.

11. Contagious
This is a feel-good so in love song. =) It's about a girl who really likes a guy even though she's scared to talk to him. She loves the way he makes her feel and wants to be with him.

12. Keep Holding On
This is one of the best songs on the album. =) The basic message of this song is that even though everyone has trials, friends can help us be strong. They are there for us when we need them and they can help us make it through anything. <3

In conclusion....great album! This has a mixture of angry scream-at-someone-with-all-your-might songs and at the same time, happy and inspirational songs. Avril Lavigne is a great singer and songwriter and has a little variety for everyone. =)
