I've decided to do a review of different albums that I like and give my opinions on them.
Today the album du jour is Don't Forget by Demi Lovato. Her album came out in late September and she wrote most of her songs. Six of them were co-written with the Jonas Brothers, which is totally awesome. =D
1. La La Land
I really like this song =) It's about someone who doesn't want to change for anybody. She has her flaws, but is ok with them. She doesn't want to be someone that she's not. Even though there may be rumors that may hurt her reputation, she is going to be herself. The music was catchy, but the guitar solo at the end was a bit much. It didnt' really need to go on for that long.
"Well, some may say I need to be afraid of losing everything
Because of where I had my start and where I made my name
Well, everything's the same
In the La La Land machine"
2. Get Back
This song is about a girl who looks back on a relationship and realizes that she really misses it. She is miserable without him. She wants to "get back" with the guy and she wants things back to the way they were. Musically it is a really good song. It has kind of an angry-rocker-chick sound to it and I like her "YOW!" at the end =D
"I wanna get back to the old days
When the phone would ring and I knew it was you
I wanna talk back and get yelled at
Fight for nothing like we used to
Oh, kiss me like you mean it
Like you miss me, cause I know that you do
I wanna get back, get back with you"
3. Trainwreck
A girl meets this guy and she realizes that he is a total mess. The things he does are a little "out there" and most people think he's crazy. But the girl sees him for who he really is and loves him for his quirkiness. She never wants him to change. He is a bit unsure, and doesn't think that they can make it as a couple, but she knows they can be strong. I really love the message of the song and it's really catchy.
"I shook your hand and you pulled it right away, yeah
You asked me to dance, instead I said, "No way"
Inside I was dying to give it a try, and you begged me so I stayed
I knew you were different from the way I caved
And you said we wouldn't make it
But look how far we've come
For so long, my heart was breaking
But now we're standing strong
The things you say, you make me fall harder each day
You're a trainwreck but I wouldn't love you if you changed"
4. Party
This is my least favorite song on the album. The song itself is ok but it just doesn't stand out at me. It's pretty much about going out and having fun, without a care in the world.
It won't be long till the summer's gone, get your party on
So sing along
Hold on tight, it's a crazy night, get your party on
So we'll scream it
Don't wait and don't you be late, get your party on
So sing along
Hold on tight, it's a crazy night, get your party on
So we'll scream it out loud
5. On the Line
This song is so catchy! Demi Lovato sang this as a duet with the Jonas Brothers. =) The song is about a phone breakup. The couple regrets breaking up the way they did, but they agree that it's for the best and for now they'll "leave it on the line". I put this song on all the time and sing it at the top of my lungs. <3
"Never would've said forever if I knew we'd end so fast
Why did you say "I love you" if you knew that it wouldn't last?
Baby, I just can't hear what you're saying, the line is breaking up
Or is that just us? Or is that just us? ( <------ FAVORITE PART OF THE SONG!) One in the same, never to change Our love was beautiful We had it all, destined to fall Our love was tragical Wanted to call, no need to fight You know I wouldn't lie But tonight we'll leave it on the line" 6. Don't Forget
In this song, Demi sings about a failed relationship. She remembers the good times she had and that they used to be strong. She is heartbroken that the guy she was with refuses to remember any of this and won't admit to being with her at all. She begs him to remember her, but he refuses. She laments "Now I'm left to forget about us." Even though this is a sad song, I really like it. She starts out all sweet and innocent, and gets really emotional and into it by the end of the song.
"And at last all the pictures have been burned
And all the past is just a lesson that we've learned
I won't forget
Please don't forget us
Somewhere we went wrong
Our love is like a song
But you won't sing along
You've forgotten about us"
7. Gonna Get Caught
This song is about a guy who tells a girl she means everything to him and he needs her, when in reality, he tells this to several other girls. She thought she was actually special, and finds out that she's the last one on his mind. She wants him to stop playing these games with her and all the other girls that he messes with. This song really hits home because I can't stand guys who act like that, who get girls' hopes up and just don't care about the consequences.
"You reeled me in with your smile
You made me melt with your voice
Now I've been gone now for a while
Just to find that I'm your seventh choice
And I don't wanna pay the cost
But it'd be best if you get lost
'Cause we know you'll never change
Don't say that you need me
And don't play these games with my mind
You better get out of my head
'Cause you're wasting your time
And don't say it's forever
And don't play, 'cause you had your shot
You better stop messing around
'Cause you're gonna get caught"
8. Two Worlds Collide
Demi wrote this song about her best friend, Selena Gomez. It tells the story of a girl who was trying her best to make it in this world, but was really struggling. She needed someone to "show her who she could be." She sings about how even though the two of them come from different backgrounds, they need each other to be strong. It has a really great message and my favorite part of the song is "but you've given me strength to find home".
"She was scared of it all
Watching from far away
And she was given a role
Never knew just when to play
And she tried to survive
Living a life on her own
Always afraid of the throne
But you've given me strength to find home
You had your dreams, I had mine
You had your fears, I was fine
Showed me what I couldn't find
When two different worlds collide"
9. The Middle
I'm not really a huge fan of this song either. Demi sings about finding a middle ground in a relationship, because she really wants to be with the guy and any relationship with him is better than nothing.
"I wanna crash, I wanna fall
I wanna be somewhere in the middle
Somewhere in the middle of something
It's better than nothing
I just need a little
I just need a little
And I don't wanna be nowhere
Something's making me go there
Somewhere in the middle with you
I like it, I like it, I like it"
10. Until You're Mine
Not one of my favorites, but it's a pretty decent song. A girl really likes a guy and she will do almost anything to be with him. She doesn't know what she would do if she didn't have him in her life. My favorite line is the first line in the song: "My state of mind has finally got the best of me, I need you next to me." <3>
"Just stop wondering
If we were meant to be
Forget about fate
And just hold me
I'm ready to begin
The waiting has to end
Right now, today
I've gotta find a way
Until you're mine
I have to find
A way to fill this hole inside
I can't survive
Without you here by my side
Until you're mine
Not gonna be
Even close to complete
I won't rest until you're mine"
11. Believe in Me
Hands down, the best song on the album. I have it as my current ringtone and I can't stop listening to it! It's really catchy and I love it. =) The song is about having confidence in yourself. You don't have to compete with everyone else, just be yourself and you will shine in your own way. <3>"The mirror can lie
It doesn't show you what's inside
And it, it can tell you you're full of life
It's amazing what you can hide
Just by putting on a smile
I don't wanna be afraid
I wanna wake up feeling beautiful today
And know that I'm okay
'Cause everyone's perfect in unusual ways
You see, I just wanna believe in me"
Overall, I really love this album! It has a great mix of songs with a lot of great messages. A lot of the lyrics are really beautiful and they relate to some of the things that I'm going through or have been through. The songs are a good mix of upbeat tempos and slower ballads. I would definitely recommend this album to anyone who wants to listen. =)
Give me some album suggestions for future blogs and you might see it on here! =D

haha sam, you're such a dork with this high school musical stuff. hahaahaha i love you though!
i love demi lovato haha.. everyone thinks im such a dork for it but her songs are so relate-able! I liked how you broke each song down and wrote a little blurb about them. Lyrics are one of my favorite things. I love music more than anything... and i think lyrics are what make the song most of the time.
so my suggestions for future posts are any songs that are meaningful! (and catchy helps too) haha :)
